Since 1950 ⸻

Our Story

The origins of our history date back to the early ‘50s when the future founder of Serigrafica Carpigiana, Emo Vaccari, first approached the screen printing technique. It was his passions for graphics and colors ( he had always cultivated a hobby for painting ) that led him to discover this printing process, which acted as catalysts in achieving his goal: expressing his artistic sensibility through a business venture that brought him “satisfaction”.

Made with love ⸻
An authentic story, Love for manufacturing.

The “future pioneer” began experimenting with the first prints, as he had no prior experience to rely on. The initial works were carried out in the attic of his residence in Soliera (Mo), with minimal equipment at his disposal. In that small laboratory, which was the site of what was later called “Serigrafica Emiliana” in 1950, the first prototypes were born. The samples consisted of multi-colored prints on paper, rigid cardboard, plastics, self-adhesive materials and glass. In 1959, in the Carpigiano district, the pioneering enterprise encountered the emerging Textile Clothing industry.

Clothing companies required screen printing on shaped rigid cardboard; as a result, the first prints were created, featuring the company logo on one side and the specifications of the finished garments (price, articles, size, colors, model) on the other side. These tags would then accompany the finished garments.
The possibility to print on rigid materials, with the shine and the thickness of colors used, presented an exciting novelty because the other printing method such as lithography and typography couldn’t achieve the same effects.
In a short time, the clients of Serigrafica Emiliana expanded and diversified thanks to the acquisition of some renowned clothing companies in the region.

In 1961, Serigrafica Emiliana permanently relocated to Carpi.
The ambition and interest in being able to print on fabric drove the “future pioneer” to dedicate himself to this new project, which required a considerable overhaul of the production process. As screen printing would now be done on fabric rather than rigid cardboard or glass.
Numerous entry barriers confronted the “future pioneer” (primarily equipment and technical expertise), making the developments and realization of the project particularly lengthy and challenging. However, after numerous studies and countless empirical tests, in 1962, a business idea was born that offered the market a new textile enrichment service. It consisted of a placement print on a finished or pre-cut garment obtained with handcrafted printing pastes.
The success of thin new product in the Carpigiano district shifted the focus of printing from paper and glass to textiles. The redefinition of core business oriented to the market thus creating to the market thus creating the prerequisites for the serighaphy- clothing combination.

In the early ‘70s, the prints produced by Serigrafica Emiliana experienced a true success, prompting the pioneer to “expand” the business. This led to the relocation of the activity in a new warehouse in 1971 and founded “La Serigrafica Carpigiana snc”, a company composed of 2 partners ( one of whom is the founder ) and 13 workers.
The emergence and continuous growth of competition motivated La Serigrafica Carpigiana to seek segmentation-differentation strategies that would enhance the role it had maintained in the Carpigiano district, namely that of the leader in textile nobilitation known for quality and process safety. From the mid-‘70s, La Serigrafica Carpigiana began using higher-quality printing pastes, allowing them to embellish medium to high products. Simultaneously, they expanded the range of products achievable through the same pigment printing process, such as lurex printing, raised printing, flock and metallic printing.
In 1978, the company changed its legal form, giving rise to “Serigrafica Carpigiana S.R.L “.

In 1985, they underwent the third and final relocation within the Carpigiano territory, aiming to further expand the space to equip the screen print laboratory with new printing tables, equipment ( automatic printing machine ), and facilities (thermofixing ovens).

In 1990, the company officially began to be led by the second generation of the founder of Serigrafica Carpigiana, Alessandro Vaccari. He had completed his studies in the Faculty of Economics and Commerce at Modena University, with a thesis entitled: “The chromatic contribution and the quick response strategy in the T/A sector”. Alessandro embarked on his new entrepreneurial path in a challenging. Market context, characterized particularly by numerous competitors not only from the local Carpigiana district but from all over Italy and even foreign countries, leading to a fierce price war fueled by various screen printing companies leveraging economies of scale to gain cost advantages through large production quantities. Faced with this market situation, Alessandro, well aware of the size and economic capacity limits of Serigrafica Carpigiana, decided to change the company’s strategy, shifting toward an “image” policy, where creativity and quality would become the main strengths of the company’s products.
The new strategy required significant changes on multiple fronts. Firstly, to enhance the value of the finest yarns, the printing process had to ensure the highest quality standards, both in terms of color and ( especially) the softness of printed fabric. This initiated a long journey of research and studies in the world of printing pastes based on dyes capable of guaranteeing the utmost serigraphic quality on fabric. To achieve this, the company had to expand its infrastructure ( to handle finishing processes ) and delve into the theoretical and practical aspects of dye chemistry.
Venturing into the realm of typical “Como-Style” screen printing made it essential to go to higher-end target clients. Consequently, Serigrafica Carpigiana began to expand its customer portfolio, attracting more established fashion brands in both the national and international high-end fashion market, well beyond the borders of the Carpigiano District.

Starting from the early ‘90s, alongside the “image” policy, Serigrafica Carpigiana pursued a progressive and parallel expansion strategy concerning the range of products offered. In addition to screen printing with pigment and dye-based colors ( both acid and reactive ), the company began offering colored laminations, gloss finishes, flock and transfer applications. Then, in 2006, with the acquisition of two new machines, digital printing with dyes was introduced, representing a true revolution in terms of chromatic contribution this printing technique could offer to the embellished textile substrate.
The gradual product differentiation implemented by Serigrafica Carpigiana proved to be a strategically successful choice, not only for excellent results obtained with the qualitatively superior “new” products but also because it significantly increased the company’s flexibility. With an extensive range of enrichment processes at their disposal, Serigrafica Carpigiana could respond more positively and in line with the natural trend of fashion proposals to increase product variety and variability.
As a result, product flexibility become the pivotal point on which Serigrafica leveraged its production management and planning. This approach allowed the company to overcome particularly challenging economic marked crises, such as the one that hit the Carpigiano textile district in 2008.
Over time, the achievements obtained and the collaborations cultivated with high-fashion designers grew more intense, driven by the shared vision of providing end-users with Made in Italy products of top-notch quality. Elements like experience, professionalism, and speedy execution gradually became fundamental strategic factors that enable Serigrafica Carpigiana to deliver services and products of the highest quality standards to the most discerning clients in the high-fashion industry.

Today, Serigrafica Carpigiana – with the support of the third generation of the “pioneering” family – in undertaking the new challenge of reducing the environmental impact of the products offered, utilizing cutting-edge technologies and increasingly environmentally friendly raw materials that we are called upon to protect, now more than ever. This is the noblest goal that Serigrafica Carpigiana has decided to pursue and will keep them engaged in the years to come.
